Engineering Entrance Exams That NIOS Students Should Target
Completing your class 12 from National Institute of Open School is one of the most popular preferences of students looking forward to prepare for any competitive examinations. One of the most sought after choices is Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, which leaves the students with enough time to prepare for engineering entrance exams without hindering their basic schooling.

Although there are some engineering entrance exams in which NIOS students can not apply, there are many that they can target. Here is a list of engineering entrance exams that NIOS students can appear for, to get admission in a reputed engineering institution.
JEE Main is the most opted engineering entrance that students prefer amongst all others. The primary reason being, it is the very first ladder to get admission in the top Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), the most reputed engineering institutions in India.

Around 11.5 lakhs students will be appearing in JEE Main 2018 to be held on April 08, 2018 for the offline mode applicants, and on April 15 and 16, 2018 forapplicants in online mode.
Once after qualifying JEE Main 2018, students become eligible for appearing in JEE Advanced 2018 exam. JEE Main is also a qualifying parameter for you to get admission to the various engineering courses in the National Institute of Technology (NITs) and Centrally Funded Technical Institute (CFTIs) in India.
Many reputed private engineering colleges across the country also offer admissions to students considering their JEE Main scores. This is meant to be the best engineering entrance for the NIOS students.
Exam Pattern: There are 90 multiple choice questions in the JEE Main exam with equal weightage of 30 questions for each of the Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects. Each of these questions carry 4 marks, and 1 mark is deducted from the total score of students for every incorrect attempt as per the negative marking concept.
You would be given three hours for attending this exam, and four hours are provided to the students who have more than 40% disability. JEE Main paper is of total 360 marks and you may opt to attempt it either in the online or offline mode.
Eligibility Criteria: To appear in JEE Main 2018 exam, your date of birth must be on or after October 1, 1993. You may not appear in the exam more than thrice in a lifetime.
One must have qualified 12th class in the 2016, 2017 or 2018 year with at least 75% marks. In case you have appeared in this year, you need to show the proof for qualifying marks at a later stage.
For the SC or ST category candidates, the required qualifying marks are set to 65% marks. In case the qualifying marks parameter is not met by candidates, they should have ranked them amongst the top 20 percentile in the class 12th exams in their class.
2- JEE Advanced
JEE Advanced engineering entrance exam, the most crucial one amongst all the engineering entrance exams across the country is for admission to the various undergraduate engineering curriculums in the 16 IITs and the Institute for Supply Management (ISM) Dhanbad.
JEE Advancedexamination is organized by various IITs on routine basis. Only those students will be able to appear in it who have cleared JEE Main.
Apart from this, many reputed foreign engineering institutions also seek JEE Advanced scores of Indian students for offering admissions to their courses. NIOS students must keep their eye on this exam.
Exam Pattern: The JEE Advanced examination is divided into two papers, Paper 1 and Paper 2. You will be required to clear both of these papers separately to make your way to an IIT.
Both these papers are available in only two languages, English and Hindi. You must specify your choice of language of the question paper while registering for JEE Advanced in the online mode.
Each of the two papers has three separate sections – Section 1 is of Physics, Section 2 of Chemistry, and Section 3 of Mathematics. You will be provided three hours to attempt each of these two papers.
Starting 2018, JEE Advanced is made available only in computer-based mode. Exam is scheduled for May 20, 2018.
Note that out of the 11.5+ lakhs students appearing in the JEE Main 2018 exam, only the top 4000 students will be offered to appear in JEE Advanced. You may target it in case you have passed class 12th from NIOS.
Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible for the JEE Advanced exam, you need to follow all the eligibility parameters mentioned above in the JEE Main Eligibility Criteria section. In addition to that, you will need to score the least required marks in JEE Main for appearing in JEE Advanced.
The Birla Institute of Technology and Science Admission Test (BITSAT) is an engineering entrance exam offering admissions to undergraduate engineering course at the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS),Pilani and its other campus institutions located at Hyderabad and Goa. The exam is organized at national level, and NIOS students are also eligible to appear for it.
BITS campus institutions hold at par reputation with that of the IITs. The BITSAT 2018 will be carried out in the online mode from May 16 to 31, 2018.
More than 2.1 lakhs students appeared in in BITSAT 2017 for getting admissions to just 2000 seats at specified institutions. This number is expected to exceed this year.
Exam Pattern: BITSAT 2018 is scheduled to be held in the computer-based or online mode. The exam paper will contain four parts, Part I – Physics, Part II – Chemistry, Part III – English Proficiency and Logical Reasoning, and Part IV – Mathematics.
Students need to attempt 150 questions in three hours. Both Part I and II contain 40 questions, Part III contains 25, and Part IV contains 45 questions.
All questions in the exam are of multiple-choice type where candidates would be given four probable answers pertaining to each question. Each question carries three marks. However, with every incorrect attempt, one mark would be deducted from your total score as negative marking.
BITSAT also has a clause of additional questions. If you attempt all 150 questions in specified three hours without leaving anyone of those, you would be provided to attempt 12 more questions.
This will give you a chance to score much more marks and secure a better rank. Considering the difficulty level of BITSAT at par with the JEE Main exam, its reputation is also very good.
Eligibility Criteria: For appearing in the BITSAT exam, students must pass class 12th with the Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics subjects with at least 75% marks. In case you have appeared in it this year, you would need to show the proof of the qualifying marks at the time of counselling.
The Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Examination (VITEEE) is one of the most sought after options for NIOS students for admissions to B.Tech course at Vellore Engineering College.
The institute got the status of a university in 2001 through the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). In 2017, around 138,000 aspirants appeared in this entrance exam for just 2100 seats.
The exam is scheduled to be held from April 04 to 15, 2018 in the online or computer-based mode. Its result will be declared on April 25, 2018 and the rank list will be issued on April 27, 2108.
Exam Pattern: The VITEEE 2018 exam will consist of 150 multiple-choice questions. You will be provided with two and half hours to attempt those.
The syllabus of this engineering entrance exam is scheduled to be covered from 12th class syllabus of the Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics subjects. No negative marking is there in this exam.
Eligibility Criteria: To appear in VITEEE, candidates must clear class 12th exams with Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics subjects and at least 60% marks. In case you have appeared in it this year, you would need to show the proof of the qualifying marks (60%) at the time of counselling.
