5 Must Know Thingsabout KEAM and MU-OET Counselling
The Manipal University Online Entrance Test and Kerala Engineering Entrance Exam are two important upcoming exams for engineering admissions. The former is scheduled to take place from April 19 to May 09 while the latter is scheduled on April 23 and 24. A third attempt of MU-OET 2018 will take place on May 11.
MU-OET entrance exam is usually given for admissions to engineering courses at the Manipal University. While KEAM 2018 will provide admission to Engineering and other professional degree courses including Architecture, Medical, Agriculture, Fisheries and Pharmacy in Kerala and is conducted by Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE), Govt. of Kerala.
Unlike other exams, MU-OET 2018 exam also requires online test slot booking to write three attempts and is done on separate dates prior to the actual exam.Only those candidates who qualify both these exams can participate in the counselling process for allotment of seats at respective colleges or universities. This is will be as rank lists or merit lists of the respective exams. If a candidate’s name occurs in this merit list, then he or she is allotted an All India rank.
In the case of MU-OET exam, a candidate can make it to the merit list only by achieving 50% marks in this exam. After this, the first round of counselling will be held by the first or second week of June.
For KEAM exam, the merit or rank list differs from course to course and are prepared separately. For instance, merit list for engineering courses is based on marks scored in the exam plus the aggregate of marks scored in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics at class 12 level. It’s like a 50:50 ratio. Therefore, candidates are required to understand specific requirements of various courses and also have to register online for the counselling process. Another thing to be noted is that rank lists for varied courses under KEAM have validity dates and hence should be checked. Allotment of seats for KEAM exam is then done through Centralized Allotment Process (CAP) based on this merit list, choices made and seat availability.
The dates to give options and register for KEAM 2018 counselling will begin from the last week of June, and the entire seat allotment process will go till first or second week of August.Apart from this, there are certain documents and other requisites required at the time of counselling admissions and should be looked into compulsorily by the respective candidates for both the exams.
These include bringing the KEAM Admit card, Allotment letter issued by CEE, Proof for date of birth, Original mark lists of qualifying exam and Pass Certificate, Transfer certificate, Physical Fitness, Conduct certificate and Migration certificate for KEAM 2018 document verification.
However, for MU-OET counselling, the documents required are MU-OET 2018 hall ticket or admit card, 10th and 12th marksheet,
Conduct certificate, Transfer certificate or School/College Leaving Certificate, four passport size photographs and one stamp size photograph.
Counselling Process and Respective Rounds for MU OET
With regard to the counselling process and other formalities, it differs for both the exams. For registration to MU-OET counselling, candidates can fill in the registration forms at the counselling venue and can make preferred choice of courses as per seat availability.
Then, there will be five to six rounds of counselling for candidates who make it to the merit list with 50% marks. Out of these rounds, the first round, the Intra-Institute round and spot counselling round are physical rounds wherein candidates’ physical presence is required. The remaining rounds will be online. Waitlists are also published for those who wish to change their allotted seats and sit in the second or third round of counselling or those who haven’t been allotted any seats in the first round.
Final Selection for MU-OET
Final selection and admission is then made based on the performance of candidates in these counselling rounds, seat availability and the ranks as per the merit list of MU-OET 2018. It is also important to note that selection of candidates are done to other three participating institutes of MU-OET 2018, that is Manipal Institute of Technology, Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology and Manipal University, Jaipur.
Candidates are also required to pay the prescribed fees through demand draft in favour of Manipal University, payable at either Manipal or Udupi. After the seat allotments are completed, candidates are also given a copy of the allotment order and the receipt for fees payment.
Being physically present is equally important. In case of sending anybody else in place of the candidate, an authorization letter must be sent with this person. So, only the candidate or a representative can enter the counselling hall.
For KEAM 2018, counsellingprocess begins with registration by the candidates which can be done online or through various facilitation centres. For this, candidates need to log in to the KEAM 2018 candidate portal using their roll number and application number and complete the remaining process such as selecting their choice of course and college from the available options in the order of their preference. The options are then saved and have to be submitted.
A trial allotment is announced before the final allotment results. Then Centralized Allotment Process (CAP) as mentioned before is followed here after which the results of seat allotment are made online. The total number of seats for various courses are also mentioned at the beginning of this CAP process.
Every candidate will also get details such as specific college and course for which he or she has been allotted and the amount of fees to be paid to CEE account at specified bank branches of SBT bank. However, this does not mean that the candidate has gained admission. Reporting at the allotted institute is mandatory by the candidates inorder to confirm their seat admission, along with document verification and payment of fees. Finally, KEAM 2018 counselling will end with four seat allotment rounds. Sometimes one more spot allotment round are also held incase any vacant seats are left.
